Intoxicated
2012 starts intoxicated,
As explosions are still sounding
In my weakened body
A hangover lingers.
Like yesterday’s leftovers
The constant explosions
Continue as bright colours
Flash under my duped eyelids.
The brilliant reds, yellow and greens too
Fizzle and then explode,
As I lay in semi conscious state,
Wishing I was asleep.
I should explain
My intoxication is not from amber liquid,
But caused by an epileptic seizure
Bringing a halt to celebrations.
It was to be round one,
The 8 o’clock show, you know
For the young ones,
Well for me it was the end of the night.
The sounds
Pounds in my heart
As if another cracker
Engulfed me.
The coloured lights
Continued to spray overhead,
Like bullets from a shot gun,
Showering me with their presence.
Such an onslaught
Broke my fragile nerves
And the light show
Trigger me into semi conscious.
As another seizure
Hijacked my body
Which violently shook
Me into a state of exhaustion.
Now I walk though the day
Feeling suspended in time,
As the shades of
2011 remain ringing in my head.
It's only lunch time yet
Thoughts of climbing into bed
Consuming exhaustion
Robs me of January 1!
Luck I didn’t drink!
